About RAS
Dear colleagues!
The Russian Public Organization “Russian Association of Statisticians” (RAS) was established on April 2, 2014 a the inaugural congress in Moscow.
RAS was registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation on August 8, 2014 (registration No. 0012011804). The relevant information on the state registration of the public association was added to the Unified state register of legal entities on August 13, 2014 under the main state registration number 1147799012954.
ABOUT RAS
The RAS is a membership-based, voluntary, self-governing, non-profit association of statisticians, other individuals and legal persons (non-profit organisations), established to pursue the common interests of its members and to achieve the goals identified in the Regulations. The goals of the RAS are:
- To promote the development of statistical science and applications;
- To promote training of statistical staff;
- To bring to the attention of the relevant executive and legislative authorities issues related to statistics, propose ways and means to address these issues;
- To foster international cooperation in statistics, develop ties with statistical communities in foreign countries, facilitate the integration of Russian statisticians into the global academic and professional community.
PROMOTE THE DEVELOPMENT OF STATISTICAL SCIENCE AND APPLICATIONS
Our partners in promoting the development of statistical science and applications are the Federal State Statistics Service, the Interstate Statistical Committee of the CIS and other national and international organisations involved in the development of statistical activities, as well as research and educational institutions, associations, media and corporations. The RAS does not seek to replace the activities of the national statistical offices or research and educational institutions. The RAS identifies its role of developing the national statistics in the support of the creative initiative of Russian and foreign statisticians, statistical innovative projects, in raising awareness and enhancing the perception of the statistical activities, professional understanding and interaction between statisticians. The RAS aims at orginising an annual Russian Statistical Congress in different regions of Russia. The Russian Statistical Congress is expected to become a platform for professional communication of statisticians – both academics and practitioners – from various fields and to contribute to the implementation of our motto, “Statistics for the society”.
PROMOTE STATISTICAL TRAINING
The RAS stresses the particular importance of developing and implementing a modern educational standard in statistics, improving the quality of curricula, textbooks and other methodological documents. More broadly, the RAS seeks to actively contribute to improving statistical literacy of the Russian society
COMMUNICATE WITH THE STATE AUTHORITIES ON ISSUES OF STATISTICAL DEVELOPMENT
The RAS identifies its immediate task in the preparation of the professional standard of “Statistician” that would be adequate to the current global trends and international standards. In addition, the RAS will participate, in the manner prescribed by the Russian law, in the preparation and public discussion of the laws and regulations related to the statistical activities and statistical classifications. The RAS will participate in the relevant expert groups and bodies, and will share its opinion through the media.
STRENGTHEN INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION IN STATISTICS
The RAS identifies its most important task in strengthening the cooperation with statisticians and professional communities of the member countries of the CIS, the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space. The RAS also seeks to develop fruitful cooperation with professional statistical communities of other countries, and with international professional organisations, first of all the International Statistical Institute (ISI). The RAS is grateful for the support kindly provided by the ISI and the statistical associations of the USA, Japan, the UK, Poland, as well as “Open Data Watch” in the preparation and holding of its inaugural congress.
